Refugio Valley Park

Refugio Valley Park in Hercules.

Ute and Lukas come over to play with Kai before we fly off today to Chicago. We grab some Hawaiian lunch and head over to the park.

Kai and Lukas are attracted to this chow

Only this time, Lukas found something more fun to play in! MUD!!!

Of course, mama Ute could only shake her head...and Kai sat around and watched the entertainment.

Derek's girlfriend, Jen, picked us up from the airport, which worked out well because she just flew in a couple hours earlier from Washington DC. When she dropped us off at my sister's home, no one was there to greet us (it was past midnight) yet the door was unlocked. Jen left for home.

I unloaded my bags in the guestroom and placed a sleeping Kai in the playpen already set up for us. I wondered where everyone was- I checked on Hope and took Cohen's shoes off as he was asleep with it in bed (he doesn't let anyone take off his shoes), and found their older sister Adira asleep on the couch. I then heard some noise in the master bedroom.

Then I hear my phone ring- I rush back to check it (don't want Kai to wake up) and see that it's a call from Matthew. I thought that perhaps this was a joke- they were too lazy to greet me...but they didn't even realize I was in their house already!

Cheri freaked out when I pounded on their bedroom door. She was half asleep and looked like a wide-eyed doe when I stood there before her holding her phone. How did I get in? she asked. And I laughed and told her I could have abducted her kids...

We stayed up to 3am Chicago time talking and eating a late dinner before I jumped into bed.
