Foster A Dream Accepts Award @ UC Cal Berkeley vs. Stanford Game
23 FEB 08 Saturday
The Foster A Dream kids accepts a $2500 check from Cal Berkeley during the Battle of the Bay between the women's basketball teams- Cal vs. Stanford. My understanding was that for every B achieved in class by a UC Cal student- Cal Berkeley would donate $10 to Foster a Dream and another non-profit company.
It was a high energy game (way better than the Warriors games I've been to with Greg) and excitement was everywhere- especially for me and my trigger-happy camera finger.
It was great to be here again, this is where Greg graduated and where I met him on a Cal Adventure weekend getaway to rock climb at Yosemite in 1992. Amazing how time flies! It brought back good memories upon passing the gymnasium on the way to meeting the Foster a Dream group, who had invited me to join this special event.
Lori, waving her peace sign, is the founder of Foster A Dream. She too was a foster child and made this not-for-profit company a success...matching mentors to mentees- children who need direction in their life.
I was not expecting to be in the middle of all the action with Foster a Dream, as it was a thrill to go down to the basketball floor to accept the check. I was a bit shocked to see my face on their projection screens (and thought to myself "wrong angle- I look fat!" and wanted to grab that camera from the guy and show him how it should be done! haha). The last time I was on a big court like that was when I a highschool cheerleader ages ago- (I know can you believe I was ever even one- tomboy me?)
Buckets were also being passed to ask for additional monetary donations.
Wow! Look at that jump!
Even waving this Cal flag was a workout as it was huge!
